OJAS FAQ
Massage Therapy
What types of massage are available at SPA OJAS?
SPA OJAS offers a variety of massage treatments, including Registered Massage Therapy, relaxation massage, deep tissue massage, acupressure massage, hot stone massage, cupping, gua sha, prenatal massage, reflexology, and couples massage. Your therapist can help you choose a treatment based on your individual needs and preferences.
Does SPA OJAS offer direct billing for massage therapy?
Yes. SPA OJAS offers direct billing for Registered Massage Therapy with many participating insurance providers. Coverage and eligibility vary depending on your individual insurance plan. Direct billing is not guaranteed for every appointment, and clients are responsible for payment if a claim is rejected or the insurance system is unavailable.
Do I need a doctor’s referral for Registered Massage Therapy?
A doctor’s referral is generally not required for most Registered Massage Therapy appointments. However, insurance requirements vary by provider and individual benefit plan. We recommend checking your coverage with your insurance company before your appointment.
What is the difference between deep tissue and relaxation massage?
A relaxation massage generally uses gentler to moderate pressure and focuses on relaxation, stress reduction, and overall well-being. Deep tissue massage uses more focused and sustained pressure to address areas of deeper muscle tension and tightness. Your therapist can adjust the pressure and treatment approach according to your comfort level and needs.
Do you offer couples massage?
Yes. SPA OJAS offers couples massage for two people who would like to enjoy a massage experience together. Couples massage requires two therapists and should be booked in advance so we can coordinate availability and prepare the treatment space.
Acupuncture
Does acupuncture hurt?
Generally, no.
Acupuncture needles are extremely thin—much thinner than standard hypodermic needles used for blood tests. You might feel a tiny pinch as the needle passes through the skin, similar to a quick mosquito bite. Once the needle reaches the correct depth, you usually won’t feel sharp pain. Instead, you may experience a characteristic sensation known in Chinese medicine as De Qi, which feels like a mild dull ache, heaviness, tingling, or fullness. This is a normal, positive sign that the body’s natural response is being activated.
Is acupuncture safe? Could it cause infections or internal injury?
Yes, it is very safe when performed by a licensed practitioner.
Hygiene: Licensed acupuncturists use single-use, pre-sterilized, disposable stainless steel needles. Every needle is discarded immediately after use, eliminating the risk of cross-infection or blood-borne illnesses.
Anatomy & Technique: Professional acupuncturists undergo extensive training in human anatomy and needle technique, ensuring precise insertion depths and angles that avoid internal organs and major blood vessels.
What conditions can acupuncture help treat?
Acupuncture is widely recognized for treating a broad range of physical and mental health issues:
Pain Management: Chronic back/neck pain, migraines, osteoarthritis, sciatica, and joint stiffness.
Neurological & Mental Health: Anxiety, depression, chronic stress, insomnia, and facial paralysis (Bell’s palsy).
Digestive & Reproductive Health: Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), acid reflux, menstrual cramps, irregular periods, and fertility support.
How many sessions will I need, and how quickly does it work?
Treatment plans vary depending on whether the condition is acute or chronic:
Acute Conditions (e.g., sudden muscle sprain or stiff neck): Noticeable relief can often occur within 1 to 3 sessions.
Chronic Conditions (e.g., long-term insomnia or ongoing back pain): A standard course often consists of 6 to 10 sessions, typically scheduled 1 to 2 times a week, as chronic issues require time for the body to reset and heal.
What should I do (or avoid) before and after a treatment?
Before Treatment: Eat a light meal or snack beforehand (avoid receiving acupuncture on a completely empty stomach, as it may cause lightheadedness or dizziness). Wear loose, comfortable clothing so the practitioner can easily access points on your legs, arms, and back.
After Treatment: Rest and stay hydrated. Avoid intense workouts, cold baths/showers, and heavy alcohol consumption immediately after a session to allow your body to stay in a relaxed, healing state.
Skincare
What facial treatments does SPA OJAS offer?
SPA OJAS offers personalized facial and skincare treatments designed for different skin concerns and goals. Services include signature facials, Glow Facial treatments, facial peels, microneedling, Carbon Laser Peel, DPL treatments, and other advanced skincare services.
Which facial is best for my skin?
The best facial depends on your skin type, concerns, sensitivity, and desired results. During your consultation, our skincare professional can assess your skin and recommend the most appropriate treatment. Whether your goal is hydration, brightness, improved texture, acne care, or a more refreshed appearance, we can personalize your treatment accordingly.
What is a Glow Facial?
Our Glow Facial is designed to hydrate, brighten, and revitalize tired-looking skin. It is an excellent choice for clients looking for a refreshed, healthy-looking complexion and can also be incorporated into our OJAS Glow and other curated wellness experiences.
What is microneedling and what is it used for?
Microneedling is an advanced skincare treatment that uses controlled micro-channels to support the skin’s natural renewal process. It may help improve the appearance of skin texture, uneven tone, fine lines, and certain types of acne scarring. A consultation is recommended to determine whether microneedling is appropriate for your skin.
Can I combine a facial with a massage?
Absolutely. Combining skincare with massage is one of the signature experiences at SPA OJAS. Our OJAS Curated Rituals include combinations such as a one-hour massage with a Glow Facial, allowing you to care for both your body and skin in one relaxing visit.
